Baby Crafts!

March 27th, 2007

Since moving to Birmingham and buying a house I’ll admit that I have not done any sewing/crafting whatsoever! In fact, there is not a single pillow or curtain in my house that is not store bought. But with Baby Denbow on the way this might have to change. Now, I’m not interested in making baby clothes or quilts or anything, but if I could make my own baby wraps/slings/mei tais that would be awesome, especially since some websites charge $50-$100 each! I found this great website today with all kinds of instructions for baby carriers, shopping cart covers, sleep sacks, you can even make your own Boppy. Check out this link (just ignore some of the weird stuff like cloth menstrual pad instructions, WTH?). There are also some really great instructions on TheBabyWearer.com but you have to be logged in to view some of their content.

Whole Foods

March 26th, 2007

Now that the crowds have finally died down at Whole Foods we’ve managed to shop there a few times and pick up some really great items. I have been SO impressed with their products in general, but especially their house brand, 365. Today I’m eating their fat free peach yogurt and it’s awesome!!! I’ve also really loved their 365 unsweetened cranberry juice blends, 365 Italian spritzers, and their prepared foods/bakery items. Last trip I also picked up some Ezekiel bread (the 7 sprouted grain Cinnamon Raisin) which I’ve been a bit chicken to try, and some tortilla wraps.  Anyway, if you have a Whole Foods close by, I highly recommend trying their products.

Jellyfish Smack

March 8th, 2007

One of the baby blogs I read frequently introduced me to Jellyfish.com yesterday. The main site is very similar to ebates.com, but they have an added feature, the “Smack Show.” It’s basically a reverse auction. Items are placed up for purchase and the percentage cash back from Jellyfish starts to go up. The longer the item is available, the more savings you get. However, items are limited so they might sell out before you get a chance to buy. Last night’s Smack was all baby items (with a few tech items such as a HD camcorder and iPod) & I managed to score a Peanut Shell Sling for 78.4% off. Originally $68, my final price under $15!!!!! I was really excited because I knew I wanted to buy one eventually, and the price was just too good to pass up. And I really liked the pattern/color. I almost bid on a Dash diaper bag, Bumbo baby seat & the HD camcorder, but the prices weren’t quite low enough for me to justify it. They even had a Bugaboo Cameleon for 46% cash back, but Baby Denbow just doesn’t need a $900 stroller.

Anyway, check them out. If you sign up and create a chat nickname you have the ability to guess the ending cash back %. Closest to the actual % gets to spin the prize wheel. Prizes are anything from a Jellyfish hat to a Wii or cash back. Pretty cool!

We got our first glimpse of Baby Denbow yesterday. He/she had a heart rate of 158, was moving all over the place & was exactly the size expected for the 12 week point. How exciting!

Whole Foods

March 5th, 2007

Alabama finally got a Whole Foods! Chris & I couldn’t be more thrilled. After driving by on Saturday and seeing the line of cars out of the parking lot and down 280, we decided to go early on Sunday. Well, I guess we didn’t go early enough. It probably took us 15 min. or so to get a parking space (luckily there were parking attendants helping) and the store was so busy we quickly abandoned our cart and weaved in and out of the crowds. Because it was so busy we didn’t do any serious shopping, just picked up some basics, a few bakery items and some brisket & sausage from the smoked meats station (Side note- it’s a pretty sad commentary on the state of barbeque in Alabama when the only place to get brisket & sausage is at Whole Foods!). The barbeque was pretty decent, cookies from the bakery were ok. And the prices weren’t as bad as I expected. Hopefully the crowds will die down soon so we can do some serious shopping!

Zooper Deal

March 2nd, 2007

It’s amazing to me how many choices there are in baby stuff.. It seems like there’s a thousand different strollers to pick from. And even though it will be several months before Baby Denbow makes an arrival I’ve been trying to learn all I can about the best kinds of strollers, car seats, cribs, etc. It can be so overwhelming!!

I love shopping at Amazon and checking out their “Baby Deal of the Day.” For the most part I’ve just been looking, but today I couldn’t resist and bought a stroller. I couldn’t help myself… a Zooper Hula for only $99 (normally $298). I’m really excited about it because it gets great reviews, is a lightweight umbrella stroller with lots of comforts such as Rain & UV guards, safety netting for newborns and it’s even compatible with various infant car seats. I definitely didn’t want a baby SUV stroller monster that wouldn’t fit in the xB, so hopefully this will work out great. I also like the British styling similar to a Maclaren and it’s compatible from newborn to 45 lbs.  Check the stroller out at Amazon & a more detailed review at elitecarseats.com

    Welcome
