Fleece Poncho Done Right
Posted on November 29th, 2007 @ 12:00 am

Check out this link from the Magic City Slingers (our local babywearing group, which hopefully if Daphne cooperates we will be able to actually attend a meeting) for a modified version of the no sew poncho I posted about a few weeks ago. Cute and not muppet like at all!! I’d post a picture of the second poncho I made for Daphne, but it’s still pretty ridiculous looking. The pom pom fringe was not a good idea. I’d tell you what Chris said about it, but it’s not very politically correct and I don’t want hate mail from our growing Hispanic community. Luckily Mom brought one of my old ponchos that I wouldn’t be embarrassed for Daphne to leave the house in. Here’s a pic, me in the late 70’s and Daphne just a few weeks ago modeling the same poncho. Side note- when did Daphne stop looking like a mini Chris and turn into mini Jenny??

Daphne’s New Dresses
Posted on November 27th, 2007 @ 7:37 pm

We’ve been waiting to have professional pictures done of Miss Daphne. I want to wait until she can sit up by herself and then have another photo shoot when she can walk. Several weeks ago when Chris’ dad and step-mom were in town we visited a Janie and Jack store for the first time and fell in love with their clothes. I knew immediately that the classic style of the clothes would be perfect for pictures. So, I’ve been stalking janieandjack.com and gymbofriends.com waiting for markdowns on two specific dresses that I adore. Finally they went 50% off and I just had to splurge and buy them both. Here’s what I got:

Silk floral print dress, 6-12 mo, just in time for Easter and her Uncle John’s wedding

Another silk dress in a beautiful peachy pink with hand smocking, it’s so much prettier in person. I bought this in a 12-18 mo size with a matching cardigan. I have decided that the next kid we have either needs to be a girl, or a boy with an Eddie Izzard/cross dressing thing (just kidding Chris!!). These are too pretty not to be passed down.

Blog Spotlight
Posted on November 27th, 2007 @ 12:34 pm

I follow a number of different blogs and I thought I’d spotlight one each week.   This week’s blog is relatively new to my bloglines feeds, Confessions of a Pioneer Woman.  The story of how she met her husband (The Night I Met Marlboro Man & Black Heels to Tractor Wheels) got me hooked on her site.  Also check out her cooking blog, The Pioneer Woman Cooks!

Thanksgiving
Posted on November 27th, 2007 @ 7:58 am

I hope everyone had a happy and safe Thanksgiving holiday. Chris, Daphne and I went to Missouri and Oklahoma to visit family. It was great, but exhausting. Traveling with an almost three month old is not fun. Daphne was pretty fussy most of the week and had a hard time with all the extra people and handling. Chris & I managed to get out for the first time by ourselves. We had a mini photo shoot in downtown Tulsa, grabbed a burger at Goldie’s and went to Philbrook. Chris even let me play with his D50. Here are some of my shots:

Amazon Customers Vote
Posted on November 20th, 2007 @ 6:54 am

For the second year Amazon.com is doing their Customers Vote promotion which starts this Thursday.  Basically there are six rounds with 18 products total.  You vote on a product from each round and if you are randomly selected you get an opportunity to purchase the item at a crazy discount.  Last year we got a HDTV and an elliptical for $200 (no shipping!).  Check it out, you might get a chance to buy a Wii for $79.

Mei Tai Madness
Posted on November 17th, 2007 @ 11:25 pm

Chris & I have really been enjoying our BabyHawk Mei Tai. It’s so much easier to throw Daphne in the mei tai rather than pulling out the stroller or balancing her infant car seat in a shopping cart for those quick trips to the store. When I originally ordered the BabyHawk I wasn’t thinking about Chris wearing it too and chose girly pink patterns for both the main side and the reversible. Oops. And since I really didn’t want to drop another $90 I’ve decided to make my own. Thebabywearer.com is a great resource but I haven’t sewn anything in so long I really wanted a pattern to follow. So I purchased a pattern from Montessori By Hand (they have an Etsy shop too). Here’s a similar idea from a Flickr user.
Speaking of mei tais, I’ve definitely mastered the front carry. Now that Daphne has a bit more head control she’s almost ready to try a back carry. How anyone can pull off a back carry by themselves I have no idea. Check out this video. Eeeek! Not brave enough to try it yet.

Fall Photo Shoot
Posted on November 17th, 2007 @ 5:37 pm

Today we attempted to get a few outdoor pics of Daphne.  She was pretty fussy so we didn’t get many shots.  It was our fault… by the time we took her to eat, to the mall and to an art gallery she just wanted to go home, not to a park to shoot pictures.  Check out Chris’ Flickr account for pics.

Daphne & Allie, Best Friends Forever
Posted on November 17th, 2007 @ 9:52 am

This week Daphne discovered Allie. Last night while I was holding Daphne (she was looking at Chris across the room) when Allie walked in. Daphne looked over at Allie and her eyes followed her as she moved. This morning Allie and Daphne were both sitting on Chris’ lap when Allie gave Daphne a kiss. Daphne stretched out her little arm and touched Allie. Allie thought this was great. Hey, another person in the house to pet me! So Allie started to nudge Daphne’s hand to get her to “pet” her again. It was hysterical. Allie, wait until she is dropping Cheerios off her high chair, then you’ll really like her.

Domestic Darlings
Posted on November 17th, 2007 @ 9:43 am

This is officially on my Christmas list… an apron from Domestic Darlings.  And they even have matching children’s aprons for Daphne (well, she’d have to grow into it).   I can hear Chris now, “Jenny, you don’t wear the apron I bought you last year.”  1.  I will now that it’s fall and I will be cooking more.  2.  It’s not as cute as this halter style apron.

In Case You Missed It… Oregon vs Arizona
Posted on November 16th, 2007 @ 10:33 am

Last night unranked Arizona beat #2 Oregon.  After last year’s OU-Oregon fiasco I am glad to see Oregon get beat & get knocked out of running for the national championship, especially by a Stoops.  Now OU just needs to hold on to the rest of their season & win the Big 12.  LSU vs OU would make for a nice championship game.
