The Jane Event
I’m so excited! Beginning in January and stretching over four months, Masterpiece Theatre is airing The Complete Jane Austen. Six movies- including the new versions of Persuasion, Northanger Abbey, Mansfield Park and Sense & Sensibility. The other two movies being shown are - Kate Beckinsale’s Emma and the 1995 A&E/BBC Pride and Prejudice with Colin Firth and Jennifer Ehle (In my opinion the perfect Jane Austen adaptation. Thank you Masterpiece Theatre for not showing that piece of crap with Kiera Knightley. Or that horrible most recent Mansfield Park where the screenwriter attempted to sex-up Jane Austen a little too much. Luckily Andrew Davies- who was behind the ‘95 P&P wrote several of the new screenplays). And a bonus new drama based on Jane Austen’s life, Miss Austen Regrets. Here’s the schedule.
I’m particularly interested to see Persuasion on January 13th. I love the Ciaran Hinds/Amanda Root version from ‘95 and still watch it frequently. It’s definitely tied with Pride and Prejudice as my favorite Jane Austen book/movie adaptation. And I have never seen a movie adaptation of Northanger Abbey.
Can’t wait!
