No Sew TutuMay 9th, 2008 @ 4:34 pm
After spending all week in the kitchen (Really, I’ve been Susie Homemaker. Homemade corn & flour tortillas, buns, gnocchi, rosemary bread. I’m tired of cooking this week.) I decided to get crafty today and make a tutu for Daphne. It worked up really quickly and only cost me about $3.

This is a photo prop, not something that is really practical for her to wear, so instead of taking the time to stitch one together I just did a “no sew” tutu. I used a piece of no roll elastic cut just a tiny bit smaller than her waist, stitched the ends together to make a circle. The tulle is a 6″ x 25 yd roll from Michaels, cut into 14 in. strips, then tied in the center, onto the waistband. The finished length is about 7 inches. I think it turned out well. I plan on doing another in pink. Now Daphne just needs some fairy wings or a flower crown and we can take her to the botanical gardens for pictures.

Hi Susan!
It was really simple. I basically followed these instructions at Plumtickled:
http://plumtickled.typepad.com/plumtickled/2007/08/tutu-tutorial-t.html
I cut my strips approx. 14 inches long, since I wanted a short tutu and my daughter is small. And since I was making an infant size I only used one roll of 6 inch x 25 yards tulle. The finished length is just under 7 inches.
Hope that helps!
