Mantel Progress

May 31st, 2008

A few months ago I took everything off the walls in my living room and have been waiting for inspiration to hit. I’ve been obsessed with aqua/turquoise and birds lately and bought this pillow from Joom last year. This pic from Etsy makes it look a little dingy, it’s not in real life:

I still have no idea what to do above my sofa, but I have made progress on the mantel. Here’s a photo of the wall decal from ellynelly I mentioned yesterday. Boy, was that a pain in the ass to put up. But I was dying for something different. I had a huge mirror and a few large black and white prints up there previously.

It’s still a work in progress. The accessories I picked up at Hobby Lobby today and I’m not exactly sure where they will end up in the room. I also have a print from Alicia Bock that I got for Mother’s Day that needs a better frame:

I don’t know, decorating has really been the last thing on my mind lately. I’ll probably finish the rest of the room by Christmas.

I am anxious to see the final product! You know I just love birds. Your mantel reminds me of the drama that is happening in my backyard, really the neighbor’s and my backyards. We had a nest in our gutter right above the back door and heard baby birds for awhile and then we didn’t hear them any more. This weekend I noticed a lot of very chatty little birds on my neighbor’s roof. The more I looked at them I realized that they must be “my” babies and were learning to fly. I watched them several different times and they started to fly to a nearby tree and then fly right back to the roof. They then began flying between my roof and the neighbors. They are so cute, so little. The funny thing is they are so loud! They all “chat” at once, so maybe they are hungry? Love your mantel decor.
