Stomach BugSeptember 29th, 2008 @ 11:06 pm
Daphne & I have a stomach bug. Argh. I got sick on Friday, and Daphne didn’t start to feel bad until Sunday. I hadn’t been that sick in years. And shouldn’t there be some kind of cosmic law that states parents of little kids should be immune from getting sick? Because no matter how much extra help you have, the kid always wants you. Poor Daphne wanted me to hold her and carry her on Sunday, when all I wanted to do was lay on the sofa and wish away my stomach cramps.
Luckily, I started to feel a little better today. Daphne has an added problem, a wicked diaper rash. I can’t tell if it’s just from all the extra messy diapers from the stomach bug or if it’s a yeast rash. I’m whipping out all the home remedies and prescription stuff to try and knock this out. Today she spent quite a bit of time diaper-less, which was tricky given her tummy problems. Tonight she had an oatmeal bath, followed by a quick spritz of witch hazel and a dab of milk of magnesia, a few minutes drying her bits off with the hair dryer on low, then an anti-fungal creme and some butt paste. And after jumping through all those hoops, she pooped 20 min. later. Argh!! I hope she feels better soon.
Back to the witch hazel, the smell always makes me want to puke. It’s weird. I guess it conjures up bad postpartum memories of those little Tucks pads they give you in the hospital. So I’ll just hold my breath whenever I use it on Daphne.
Any other ideas on how to treat the rash? I’m thinking about tracking down some Calmoseptine.

Your Tulsa sister-in-law and a host of her nurse friends swears by Lotrimin cream (an anti-fungal)(generic brand). Use it liberally and by itself. Use this especially if the butt cheek area is blistered looking or worse. She says it works like a miracle…that you can tell a marked difference from the first time it is used and the next diaper change. As the bottom begins looking less “angry”, then go back to using the butt paste. Best wishes to you and Daphne…

Thanks for the recommendation. We actually have a prescription anti-fungal (Nystatin) that is supposed to be a little stronger than the Lotrimin (I think). But I’ll keep that in mind in case we run out.

Hugs and healing prayers for ya’ll! I had to share that NOTHING has ever worked as fast or wonderfully for any type of dipe rash on my littles than Weleda Calendula Care. The stuff is amazing!

Thanks for the info, Kym. I will definitely try to track that down.
