In Living Color

I finally calibrated my monitor a few days ago. I’ve been meaning to do it for ages because I knew my color was off and I wanted to make sure what I saw in Photoshop would match my prints. I used an X-Rite i1Display and I’m pretty sure their instruction “booklet” (and I’m using that term loosely) was done by the same people that do IKEA’s. Step 1- install software. Ok. Step 2- Plug in device. (And if you can’t figure that out they have a diagram indicating how to plug in the USB). Step 3- Start the software and follow the instructions. This is where I got lost. Only the diagnostic tool loaded so I had to go back and install the rest of it. Then reboot. Then find a tutorial since I had no idea what to choose after running the diagnostic test (which just confirmed the hockey puck/mouse thing was working). I finally figured it out and set the hockey puck/mouse thing on the screen and it changed my settings. Yippee!! I should have done this a long time ago. The next test will be to send some photos to whcc.com and see how close the prints look to my screen.

And while I’m on the topic of photography, I thought Pioneer Woman had a great exposure illustration on her site a few days ago. And with vinyl wall clings being all the rage right now, did you know Mpix does photo wall clings? Kinda cool. And we are thinking about some photo gifts for the grandparents for the holidays (Daphne stuff) but don’t want to necessarily do the photo calendar or photo book thing. Anyone have any creative ideas??
