Yesterday, as I was finally unpacking all of Daphne’s clothes from our Christmas trip, I noticed 4 dresses hanging in Daph’s closet. All were still new with tags and probably won’t be worn this year. Crap. Two were dresses that were bought for her by family, and the other two are fall jumpers that she can actually wear next year over pants. That makes me feel a little better.
I’m going to try really hard this year not to overbuy for Daphne, especially dresses. I think she needs no more than 4 dresses in any given season. Currently she has 6 spring/summer dresses- 2 Hanna Andersson knit tunics, 1 Baby Gap knit tunic, a few Gymboree dresses. He, he. And I’m trying so frakking hard not to place a Matilda Jane order. It’s such a good sale. I have 2 dresses and 2 tops in my card for $60. That’s a steal. I could resell them for more. And one of those knot dresses would look so cute if we went to the big Houston Rodeo this year.
Just say no, Jenny.
And no more buying ahead for fall or winter stuff. Today it was 80 degrees. You can bet she’s not getting much wear out of her winter clothes. And don’t get me started on shoes.
So here’s my plan- limit the number of dresses and try to buy things that can be worn over leggings or pants for multi-year use, buy very few fall/winter clothes (but I can get a ton of shorts and capris), 1 jacket, don’t buy the matching tights for every outfit, only 2 pairs of jeans, more casual clothes. As far as shoes- tennis shoes, brown mjs, black mjs and an alternate pair (depending on season- white, navy, red?), a few pairs of sandals (since we can wear them practically all year).
There will always be good sales, I need to pass on the clearance racks and only buy the things I truly love. Quality over quantity. But Target makes that so hard by putting out such cute $5 tops. I stroll by the kids department, see “cute top, $5″ and throw that baby in the cart. Target knows how to push my buttons. Damn you, Target.
