Tonight’s project. I was commissioned to make a dozen of these cute little pandas. The instructions are in the book, Hello, Cupcake! I had to improvise, since I couldn’t find chocolate covered sunflower seeds (for the nose, I used 1/2 of a mini M&M) or Oreo cereal (for the ears, I used mini Oreo cookies). Now, I just have to figure out a way to transport them. Hmmm…
- Chris really wants a nice bike, which unfortunately is not in the budget right now, so I’ve offered to let him ride my bike. His response? “Hell no, I’m not riding a pink bike.” At the time we were having this conversation my husband was wearing a pink shirt. He’ll wear a pink shirt, but not ride a pink bike. That makes no sense.
- My husband had sushi (the raw stuff!) and crawfish boil for the first time this week. He has come so far from our dating years when he’d only eat fried shrimp. I’m so proud.
- It seriously irritates me that Hobby Lobby has turned into Crap Import Home Decor Lobby. I swear they have more aisles of pillows, rugs and lamps than yarn. And the sewing section is the size of a postage stamp. And they only carry three or four colors of wool felt. I hate Hobby Lobby.
- I finally got a replacement power cord to my sewing machine today, and as I sat down to sew I realized the last time I used the machine the needle broke. And, you guessed it, I can’t find any replacement needles. &$#@! I think I actually invented a few new curse words as I realized my needle pack wasn’t in the arm of the machine with the rest of the bobbins and feet. So, now I have to go out tomorrow and get needles. This is getting absurd.
- Michael Cera has signed on to the Arrested Development movie. That makes me happy. I don’t think it would have been the same without George Michael.
Make the photo black and white! Half of Daphne’s face had a yellow cast from the sun coming through the fence, and part of the other side had a bluish gray shadow. After fighting with several adjustment layers in CS4 to even things out, I said, “Screw it!” and made it black and white.
I can’t tell you how much I love this Janie and Jack dress on Daphne. I’ve thought about tracking it down in a larger size, since I’m currently squeezing her into a 6-12 mo for pictures. Too bad we don’t have more places to wear silk dresses.
I went out with a bunch of moms from my Tuesday morning group for a night out- dinner at Los Cucos and a movie, Confessions of a Shopaholic. I had a great time. Dinner at Los Cucos was good, as usual. I tried the carnitas and they were excellent, perfectly cooked and topped with a wine butter sauce. The movie was kinda cute. Completely different than the book. It’s always hard to see the movie, once you’ve read the book. The movie turned out to be just your basic, silly chick flick. There are a few things that bugged me… for example, when did Joan Cusack get old enough to be cast as a mom of a mid 20-something woman. She can’t be that old. Wasn’t she in Sixteen Candles? And there is no way on earth that Joan and John Goodman could ever produce someone as pretty as Isla Fisher. She is stunning. I still can’t believe she’s married to Borat in real life.
Today, Daphne bonked her head and now has a big knot on her forehead. This is the first time she’s really hurt herself. I was expecting her to stumble and fall a lot when she was learning to walk, but she really never did. I can think of two occasions when she’s bruised herself. Anyway, as soon as she fell I put on some Arnicare gel. It really helped reduce the swelling and bruising. Actually, she doesn’t have any bruising now. I’ve also heard really good things about Hyland’s Bumps n Bruises.
So many people ask me if I looked like Daphne when I was her age. Er, no. Nope. Really. I had a ginormous head, light brown hair, blue eyes, dimples and very scruffy hair. Daphne and I have the same chin, nose, and eyebrow shape, but that’s about it. Here’s me at 18 months:
And Daphne at almost 18 months:
I keep looking at those two pictures, and how much older Daphne looks. And I’m not mistaken, I was 18 months in that photo. At 12 months I really didn’t have any hair. I do think it’s funny that I look like ragamuffin baby, and Daphne still looks a little toddlerish (ok, that’s probably not a word), but definitely more little girl.
I absolutely hate websites with music. Ok, let me clarify… music that automatically starts playing and you have no way to shut it off. I’m looking at you, GenMarie. I love this GenMarie dress, but just can’t spend $52 on it right now. So, while I was getting a new power cord for my Janome I went ahead and bought the exact same fabric.
Cute, huh?
Ok, that’s enough rambling for now. I have to go watch the latest BSG episode again and finish my ‘rita. Until tomorrow…
Firestarter Posted on February 19th, 2009 @ 10:19 pm
I was going through some pictures that Chris took of Daphne today, and even though this one didn’t really turn out I decided to play around with it anyway. She’s totally channeling Drew Barrymore in Firestarter.
And while I’m on the topic of Jane Austen, I think it might be time for me to watch Pride and Prejudice again (the BBC/A&E miniseries, not the horrible movie with Kiera Knightley). This clip contains one of my favorite scenes (around the 3 min point)- when Elizabeth is at Pemberley and sings Voi Che Sapete from Marriage of Figaro. I always swoon when I see how Mr. Darcy is looking at her.
Finally, a movie that appeals to my love of all things Jane Austen and of sci fi… Pride and Predator. Or as my husband calls it, The Ultimate Date Movie (something for everyone!).
Is this a joke? Because I just can’t imagine what this movie is going to be like. And while researching the movie online, I came across a few sites which mentioned a new book coming out, Pride and Prejudice and Zombies.
I love the description: The Classic Regency Romance—Now with Ultraviolent Zombie Mayhem! AWESOME!
