And while I’m on the topic of Jane Austen, I think it might be time for me to watch Pride and Prejudice again (the BBC/A&E miniseries, not the horrible movie with Kiera Knightley). This clip contains one of my favorite scenes (around the 3 min point)- when Elizabeth is at Pemberley and sings Voi Che Sapete from Marriage of Figaro. I always swoon when I see how Mr. Darcy is looking at her.
This is the perfect chick flick.

That has always been my favorite part.. They are remastering the series and putting it out on Blu Ray this spring.. I am very excited I couldn’t believe the quality of the dvd.

I must admit, that is an excellent adaptation. I always enjoyed it myself…Colin Firth is excellent. While the loving look at the end of this clip is a definite highlight, my favorite scenes are:
1) the verbal smackdown that Mr. Darcy delivers upon Miss Bingley after that little soiree…WHAM!!!
2) the hilarious raised-eyebrow look that Mr. Bennett gives when it is revealed that Lydia has run off with Mr. Wickham. For some reason that always cracks me up.
3) the scene between Elizabeth and Jane: “When did you know you loved him?” “I believe it was when I saw his magnificent grounds at Pemberly!” BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!
Oh, and I think I shall start having my wife address me as “Mr. Mallow” all the time.

I… um… watched the Kiera Knightley version over the Christmas break. I have to admit, I liked it.

Lauren- Did you just get the DVD? I can’t remember if mom got that for you at Christmas. Did you see the latest Sense and Sensibility? I actually liked it better than the Emma Thompson version.
Chris- I agree, those are all great moments! And Colin Firth and Jennifer Ehle are both so good in the miniseries it’s hard for me to accept any other actors as Mr. Darcy and Elizabeth.
Chong- You know, if I wasn’t such a rabid fan of the miniseries (um, I own the VHS, DVD, Making of Pride and Prejudice book and the soundtrack), I probably would have enjoyed the Keira version. I just thought she played Elizabeth like such a brat, and Matthew Macfadyden was such a boring Mr. Darcy, and Keira has this smile that shows all her teeth and looks painful, and holy crap regency dresses do not look good on completely flat chested women, could they not have bought her a push up bra? So, yeah, I’m a little biased.
