It’s A Boy!
July 16th, 2009 @ 12:39 pm

We found out yesterday that my sister and her husband will be welcoming a baby boy in November. I think everyone in the family is pretty excited to meet the first grandson/nephew. And of course, my baby crafting/shopping urges are kicking into high gear. But, what do you make for a boy?

So, my crafty readers, point me in the direction of good baby boy crafts… clothing, toys, etc. I could only think of one crafty blogger (Homemade by Jill) with baby boy items. And did you see the tie and vest onesies from Jessie Rivers featured in one of her posts. Ahhhhh, the cuteness!!:

And since my sister will be registering soon, what are your must-have baby items? Here are some of mine:

– Changing table. I know this is always at the top of everyone’s “Do Not Buy” list, but I love my changing table. We still use it.
– Babywearing stuff. I have two pouch slings, two ring slings, a mei tai and an Ergo. I think if I had to do it over again, I’d have a Moby wrap for when the baby is little, and the Ergo. I LOVED being able to put Daphne in the BabyHawk or Ergo and have my hands free to do other things.
Miracle Blanket. Daphne was a little baby Houdini and could bust out of just about any swaddle. And she didn’t like her arms tucked in. But, I still preferred the Miracle Blanket over the SwaddleMe or just using a receiving blanket. Here’s Daphers at 3 weeks old in her Miracle Blanket:

– Kirkland wipes (Costco). This isn’t helpful for my sister, since she’s planning on cloth diapering, but Daphne never had a problem with these irritating her skin.
– Pedipeds. Don’t know about the boys shoes, but I loved these on Daphne. I absolutely hated Robeez.
– The Children’s Place stretchies (zip up PJs). Love these. I’ve heard great things about Hanna Andersson pajamas too and might try those for Daphne this year.
– IKEA Antilop high chair and long sleeved bibs. Both awesome and cheap, cheap.

And here are a few things I hated, or Daphne hated:

– Bumbo seat. I’m glad I got this at a garage sale for $5 because Daphne HATED IT!
– Medela Pump in Style. This is another weird one for me to hate, since everyone loves it. I had better luck with the Avent Isis manual pump. Not that Daphne ever took a bottle. I’m sure if I was working full time and needed an electric pump I would have learned to love the Medela.
– Those weird baby gown pajama things. I had a family member get Daphne at least 10. Totally hated those.

Please comment and let us know what worked, or didn’t work, for you.

I use my Moby Wrap for everything with my 1 onth old son. He falls asleep as soon as I put him in! I did not have one with my first daughter but used a pouch and the Ergo. The Ergo is a must have for older babies and toddlers too!

I absolutely love the vest and tie! Wouldn’t that be the cutest thing for going to church or Dedication Sunday?

Katie- I agree about the Ergo!

Lauren- Wouldn’t little Oliver Bennett look precious in that onesie? Did you check out the other onesies in her shop? The suspenders onesie was pretty cute.

I think the onesie and a pair of dark courduroy pants and the little pedipeds would be a very “Oliver Bennett” outift! Maybe even a little newsboy hat.. he could be a little newsie!!

I never had a changing table,I just used the top of one of my dressers, the one with the mirror, so baby can pee at it’s reflection, all 3 of mine love having a mirror.
Julianna is not a huge fan of the bumbo, but now that she is sitting better she will hang in it a bit.
I never used an electric pump, I LOVE the AventIsis..used it for all three..would never try anything else..I guess AI like doing it myself, the whole electric pump idea makes me thing of a dairy farm…
I did and still do like the sweetpeas/ or baby gowns, makes for easy diaper changes in the night, no snaps to fumble with, though they are difficult for stuff that you have to strap baby into.
My favorites are the Boppy, birds eye cloth diapers for spitting up, they come 12 in a pkg and serve well as the burp cloth, wipe for babies who spit..like mine.
For boys, I love over alls, and hats.
I think with girls you can envision what they will look like in flowers and lace, but boys have to grow into their look..just my opinion.
    Congratulations of the first boy!!

So, Lauren, that’s several votes for the Ergo. You can always borrow mine when Oliver gets big enough, or get an infant insert.

we had a womb bear and that was like the only thing that calmed out daughter down when she was fighting sleep.

Trumpette socks were the best thing someone bought us. They look like little shoes!! I hated even trying to get shoes on her. They were the only socks that actually stayed on her feet. She had the ballerina and mary jane ones.

If your sister lives in a cold place the car seat cover was great!

Oh and the Diaper Genie II Elite! The foot pedal was the best thing they could have added to that thing. I had the diaper champ and it was a mess all the time and the room always smelled. “stuff” would actually squish out of the diaper when I tried to get it in there…gross

Hi, please pardon the intrusion. I’m Mike Gatten, inventor of Miracle Blanket. Your blog was brought to my attention because of your mention of the Miracle Blanket. I can’t thank you and others enough for helping us spread the word because people just don’t believe us when we tell them it might be “this easy.” That’s why word-of-mouth has been the biggest source of growth for us since day one.

To show our gratitude I’d like to send you a free Miracle Blanket. If you don’t need it for yourself you might give it as a gift or maybe a giveaway on your blog.

Please contact Susan in Marketing and let her know what color you would like. Susan@miracleblanket.com

And again, thank you very much.

what I couldn’t do with out was my breast friend nursing pillow, it helps keep the baby in a good podition so he/she isn’t dropping down & pulling your nipple, back, etc… down with him/her.

This was esp. essential with my son who was huge but even so with my daughter who spent 10days after her birth in the NICU & was so teeny that she felt awkaward in my arms to BF so the breastfriend helped.

I LOVE the onsie, I have to go buy one for my lil guy do in April yay!
