Latest Project

I have so many projects going on right now. Unfortunately I can’t talk about many of them here, since most are gifts. But I did take a break from a big project last night to finish up a feather headband. I almost bought some on Etsy, but with my ginormous head I figured it was safer to just use a headband I already had (and knew was comfortable) and add my own feathers.

Tada!

I used an old Goody fabric covered headband, $2 bag of feathers from Michael’s and some Tacky Glue. Once it’s on my head you really don’t see the fabric part at all. And an action shot:

Horrible pic with nothing in focus. And what is up with my hair color? It’s not that light IRL. Hahaha. It’s hard to take a picture of the top of your own head. At least with a heavy dslr, battery grip and big lens. I just threw it on Auto, held it up and snapped away. After shooting Manual for so long it’s hard to give up control over the settings. And I kept shaking it. Oh well, you get the idea.

As much as I like the finished results, I won’t make another. I realized last night after a sneezing fit that I was terribly allergic to feathers. Whoops. I didn’t have a problem wearing it today, but last night as I was pulling the fuzzy part from the bottom of each feather I would sneeze 15-20 times in a row. Won’t be doing that again.

I hate it when you think you’ve killed a bug, then leave to get a paper towel or something to scoop it up and when you come back.. the bug is GONE! And I stand there like Donald Pleasence at the end of Halloween and think, “Oh crap! Where did he go?!!!” You’d think with all the horror movies I’ve seen over the last 35 years that I’d just keep on bashing until I see little bug parts fly all over the carpet. Really, you never just assume they are dead with one swat (or bullet, or stab wound). Keep at it until their heads fall off.

And the worst thing about this most recent bug? We flushed him and when I went back into the bathroom later he was still in the toilet. That’s freaky.

For the first time in about 36 hours, I’m actually able to sit upright or stand. I got so sick on Sunday night and the only way I could not feel like I was going to die was to lay down. And I was able to keep an entire glass of water down. Woohoo!!!!! Thank goodness my mom could watch Daphne yesterday. There was no way I could have chased her around. Have I mentioned lately how wonderful it is to be close to family?

Right before I got sick, I was going through the 600+ posts I had added to my Newsgator clippings folder, bookmarking some to my Delicious and deleting the rest. I made it through about 200 posts and thought I’d share a few.

If I had to do it over again, this is what Daphne’s nursery would have looked like. Make sure you click on the slideshow. I love all the handmade touches. And I really wish I had a relative who could make quilts. I can do rag quilts, but never attempted a traditional quilt. Speaking of rag quilting, whenever I get through this next month of birthday and baby shower crafting, I think I’m going to make Daphne a set of these rag quilted letters. Cute, huh?

I wish I had a photograph like this of Daphne as a newborn. Stunning!!

I keep saving ice cream recipes, even though I don’t have an ice cream maker and realize it’s just easier to buy a gallon of Blue Bell at the grocery store. This salted butter caramel ice cream does sound good.

Days of the Week tags (free download!) to help keep your kids clothes organized. I actually need to do this for my husband.

Retro Blackboard from ModCloth. These would be fun for Daphne’s room. I love browsing through ModCloth’s site.

Working on a fried eggs and bacon play food set for Daphne from this tutorial. Keep forgetting to buy the pipe cleaners to make the bacon bendy.

Ok, starting to feel puky again. Back to laying down!
