Handmade Holidays

The dining table has turned into Handmade Holiday Central. I finally got around to making these rag quilted letters from the Happy Together tutorial. I love the way they turned out!!

Now I just need to create a little box or drawstring bag for storing them. That’s one Daphne Christmas project down, one to go.

Found your blog through GF! ;)

Love the letters, I’m going to make some for my little girl! How did you get the stencils for the letters? I can’t figure it out!

    Hi Annalee!

Thanks for your comment on my blog. I downloaded the letter templates from here: http://www.4shared.com/file/126025649/b6482454/ragquiltletters.html

Then I just cut each letter out and traced around the edges onto my fabric. Hope that helps! And the necklace I made for my daughter was super easy. I bought some felted wool balls (Found them at Hobby Lobby, but I know you can buy them online too at Felt-O-Rama’s website) and took a needle threaded with elastic thread and strung them up. It’s stretchy enough to pull over her head, so I didn’t need a clasp or anything.

Let me know if you have any more questions.

Thanks Lauren! I’ll make Oliver some when he gets older. I’ll have to start collecting boy friendly fabrics.

I am SOOOO making these for Julianna.. but where did you get all the different fabrics? are they vintage? or just scraps you had lying about? I don’t really want to have to buy 26 different types of fabric to make them and don’t want repeats.. i don’t have that much fabric to just ‘use’..suggestions?

Check Etsy for people selling fabric scrap lots. I got a big pack of fabric scraps from Etsy seller Lassiegirl (she’s now on bigcartel: http://lassiegirl.bigcartel.com/product/diy-scrappy-pack). For $10 I got enough for this project, all the fabric flower pins/clips I’ve made and still have a bunch left over for appliques and a mini quilt. My husband said, “You spent $10 on scraps?!!” But really, they’ve been very useful :-)

Oh, and I just used the cotton fabric on the fronts. The backings are old flannel receiving blankets. Hope that helps!
