Birth Designs
I’ve been looking for the last year for a necklace or other jewelry piece to commemorate Daphne’s birth. No cheesy birthstone babies or little shoes on a necklace. Not quite my style. I hinted and hinted to Chris to get me something (James Avery baby charm for my charm bracelet, hint, hint) but that didn’t work. But that’s ok, because he got Daphne a really nice sapphire birth stone charm (Because her due date was 9.18, who knew she’d come in August? It can be her “something blue” for her wedding since her birth stone is a peridot.). He went to the jeweler and designed it himself. I was impressed!!
So I think I’m going to buy myself something nice for mother’s day. Today I stumbled upon these necklaces from Etsy seller Birth Designs. Sterling silver and very reasonably priced:

Cute. I think I’d put Daphne Veronica on this. The flower beads are optional, you have a choice between stones and sterling silver beads.

I like this one too. Simple, and I could wear it with anything.

Cute, but not sure about the crystal moon.
Any opinions? They have several other cute designs in their shop. Let me know if you’ve seen cute mom jewelry anywhere else.

Just another plug to buy handmade…
I can’t tie a pretty bow to save my life. So when it comes to Daphne’s hair accessories I can make the clips, but leave bows to the experts. When Chris was in Tulsa I had him pick up a few hair bows at Dillard’s. 3 Copper Key bows for $12. Then I found an Etsy seller, Patchebagsandbows, with similar bows at a much better price, 6 for $10. And unlike the Copper Key set, you could pick your own colors. And for $1.67 each I’m not going to freak out too much if they get lost. Unlike our MIA $8 No Slippy Hair Clippy that is somewhere in Houston (grrr). Here are the bows:

On the right: the top six bows are from Dillard’s, the bottom 5 are from Etsy. And here’s our hair accessory model with one of the Etsy bows:

So, support independent crafters and artists!! You never know, you might even save a little money while finding the perfect item.

This is adorable!! Instead of a diaper cake baby shower gift, how about diaper sushi from Etsy seller jkalea?

It’s got diapers, onesies, a blanket and more. Oh, they used Pampers Swaddlers. I got a diaper cake from the girls at work and unfortunately didn’t use a single one of the diapers. The manufacturer cheaped out and used really poor quality generic diapers. Good idea, just couldn’t use it. So just a tip- check out what brand they use before you spend $75 bucks on one.

These Hate Mail cards from JunkMail Greetings crack me up. The 80’s child in me is drawn to this one:

Admit it, you are doing the cheer from Wildcats too. No? Well watch this and it will be stuck in your head. Link. What? What?

Since Daphne & I were out for quite a while today I had to feed her in the car, which gave me a chance to try out my new nursing apron. For those of you not familiar with a nursing apron, it’s basically an apron you wear around your neck covering your feeding infant and torso for privacy. They usually have a curved neckline, which contains some plastic boning so it stands out away from your body and allows you to see your little one while they are eating. I got mine from Etsy, but there are many different styles out there, including the Hooter Hiders brand. Yeah, Hooter Hiders. I’m all for witty names, but Hooter Hiders is a bit crass in my opinion. I mentioned it to Chris and he thought it was hysterical. And then started to come up with his own names, like Teat Tarp. Jeez Louise.
Anyway, I should have bought one a long time ago. It would have been nice on all those long holiday road trips. I don’t think I flashed any truckers, but I was worried I was going to. Second, I should have introduced it to Daphne sooner. Today she was very frustrated that there was a “blanket” on her head and kept trying to rip it off. She completely freaks out if a blanket gets on her head. Luckily there was no one around today as she was thrashing around on my lap trying to get the apron off of her. Eventually she settled down. She’s a fussy one. I wonder who she gets it from? ![]()
Taggie Love
A few weeks ago I ordered a personalized minky tag blanket from Doodlebugs’ Etsy shop. I had considered making one because it would be really simple, but by the time I bought the minky fabric ($15/yd) and all the ribbons I would have spent more than $25. Plus I don’t have an embroidery machine. We received the blanket this week and Daphne is OBSESSED with it. She won’t put it down. Here’s the blanket and Daphne in action.
