Yankee Doodle Daphne

July 4th, 2008

Daphne attended her first 4th of July picnic and discovered watermelon. It might be her new favorite food.

Here’s Daphne with her Poppa. He was not shoveling it in fast enough for Daphne.

Father’s Day

June 15th, 2008

To celebrate Chris’ first Father’s Day Daphne and I gave him a terrific gift- we let him sleep in til almost 10:30. I slept on the couch and listened for Daphne during the night, giving him a break since he’s normally the one shuttling her back and forth for early morning feedings. We got him actual gifts too, like a new Wacom tablet (actually their lower priced Bamboo line) since we lost the irreplaceable pen to our Genius tablet. Later we went to Firebirds for lunch, where Daphne had a complete and total meltdown. She was not happy. We quickly boxed up our lunches and stopped at Aldridge Gardens to snap a couple of quick pictures before going home. Here are a few more:

Happy Father’s Day, Chris!! We love you!

Happy Mother’s Day

May 10th, 2008

Happy Mother’s Day, Mom!!!  I wanted to upload a picture of us together when I was little, but you must still have most of those.  This was the best I could come up with:

Easter, 1976.  I have no idea why I look so odd in this picture.  You, however, look great!  And since I know this is one of your favorite pics of me I thought I’d add this one too:

Me at 18 months.  Little ragamuffin girl.  Man, I had bad hair.

I love you, and wish we could be with you to celebrate.  Hope you have a great day!!

What’s Up Doc?

March 28th, 2008

Since we were busy last Sunday picking up Chris from the airport and running errands, we recreated Easter for Daphne today for photo purposes. As usual we got lots of weird faces, and no smiles. But she’s still pretty cute! At least we think so.

And the grumpy bunny:

That’s ok, Daphne.  I give your father the same look when he tries to take a picture of me.

For some reason when I add any text to my last post it throws the formatting of the entire site off and I’m tired of messing with it. Anyway, those are actually 2 different videos, not the same one. The first is the news story from Mobile, the second a rap version. I know I post these every St. Patrick’s day but they still crack me up. Especially the amateur sketch. Bwahaa!!!

Happy St. Patrick’s Day everyone!

Valentine’s Day

February 13th, 2008

Daphne & I ran around today picking up the last of our Valentine’s Day dinner ingredients and visiting some old friends. As usual I was completely unable to keep a secret from Chris and spilled tomorrow’s menu and plans. I suck at keeping secrets.

We are having a quiet dinner at home, as usual. I am a pretty low maintenance girl when it comes to Valentine’s. I always tell Chris not to buy me flowers because of the insane mark-up. I hate battling crowds at restaurants. This year we decided to not exchange gifts, mainly because we bought each other big gifts at Christmas and I don’t really want anything. So it will be a pretty low key day.

Speaking of low key, one of the worst Valentine’s we’ve spent together was last year. The morning sickness was really hitting me hard and the only thing I wanted to eat was bland, starchy foods. So I made Chris take me to KFC so I could have mashed potatoes. For some reason the bland, instant potatoes from KFC sounded perfect. I have to admit it felt a little sad to be sitting in a KFC, but my stomach wouldn’t have tolerated anything else. But Chris did put forth great effort and actually made me a Valentine’s card. I was impressed. Oh, and there’s the Love Lobster. That’s a whole other post for tomorrow.

Happy Valentine’s Day!

Chris surprised me with some orange peel chicken takeout and a king cake tonight (complete with freaky plastic baby).  Yum!  Laissez les bon temps rouler!

More Valentines

January 30th, 2008

I picked up these vintage valentines several years ago at an old country flea market outside Miami, OK.  According to the dates on the back they are from the 20’s to the 60’s.  I love them, so fun and cheerful.  Someday I will do something with them (collage? simply frame them?).

Hello 2008!

January 1st, 2008

It’s a brand new year. Thank goodness! 2007 was like a big roller coaster ride and I’m hoping 2008 will be more like the train ride through the park, or the ferris wheel. You know, something calm and predictable.

We did absolutely nothing to ring in the New Year. As usual I was asleep by 11. Chris was up, but only because he’s sick and slept most of the afternoon and evening. Today will be spent going through the stacks of laundry, boxes, suitcases and Christmas gifts that are all over the house. I’m dying to get our Christmas decorations down, but with Chris being sick I doubt he’ll feel like bring up the boxes from the basement until this weekend.

My house is a wreck right now. Like a bomb went off. My basement is even worse. One of my goals this year is to be more organized (can you hear that? that’s Chris laughing). There’s no reason why two adults, a 4 month old and a dog can’t live comfortably in a 3 bedroom/2 bathroom house with a full basement and 2 car garage without junk all over the place. We need to simplify. And I need one of those clutter teams from TLC or DIY to come, put all my stuff on the lawn, and then redo my house.  That would be awesome.  So look for a garage sale at our house in the next month or two.  Or if you need a ridiculously tall ladder (which we only used a couple times when we painted our house), or a tiller/edger (only used once)- check out craigslist pretty soon.

As far as my other goals for 2008, they are pretty much the same as my 2007 goals.  Focus more on health, fitness, cooking more/eating out less, eat more organic foods, personal growth, spending quality time with Daphne.  I also want to redecorate the living room, finish our remaining home improvement projects and maybe redo the study.  Why am I still sitting here?  I need to get busy!!

Happy New Year everyone!!

    Welcome
