Dancing Fool
I have a confession to make. I have been watching So You Think You Can Dance? and enjoying it. I know, I’m usually a TV snob. I don’t watch American Idol (except for the season with Ruben Studdard since my husband knew him) or Big Brother or Survivor or any of that. Of course I have my guilty pleasure shows, like America’s Next Top Model and (this is really embarrasing) Gossip Girl. I know, I know. At 34 years old I’m sure I’m more than double the target age for that show. But all the pretty clothes, and all the pretty boys, I can’t help myself.
My mom is a big fan of SYTYCD and got me hooked on the show. I can’t believe how invested I’ve become in just a few episodes. I’m seriously sitting in front of the TV right now totally shocked that Will and Twitch are in the bottom 2. How is this possible? Kick Mark off the show. And of course I’m getting a lot of crap from my husband about watching it. In fact he just mentioned how ironic it is that the person with the least amount of rhythm or dance ability in the house is enjoying a dancing show. I don’t see what that has to do with it, lol!!! Anyway, earlier Chris & Daphne were dancing and she was mimicking his movements, which was pretty darn cute. Oh the things you see when you don’t have a camera or video camera close by.

Hi, it’s me again. Up in the middle of the night. Currently I’m watching Weeds Season 3 on iTunes. I missed the second half of the season when our cable company kept screwing us around on our rate and we pulled the plug. For those of you that have never seen it, Weeds is hysterical. But it’s not for the easily offended. Just a warning. I’m also eating a macadamia nut cookie and drinking a glass of Segura Viudas Brut Reserva. Which actually is not as gross of a combo as you’d think. The wine is to try and get me to sleep. Hopefully it will work.
Speaking of Weeds, the “put the lotion in the basket” girl from Silence of the Lambs is popping up all over the place lately… Weeds, Grey’s Anatomy and briefly in Dirty, Sexy, Money. I always try to bring up Silence of the Lambs references whenever appropriate because the movie still grosses my husband out. That was our first date. It’s a miracle we ever had a second date.

A Daily Show video clip for all you Lost fans.
I love the crack about Bionic Woman. Hehe.

I get songs stuck in my head all the time, usually really annoying ones. Last week after reading a music flashback post on another blog I had Electric Blue by Icehouse stuck on continuous play for at least two days. Lord help me. Although I think the worst song to get stuck in your head is Manfred Mann’s Blinded By The Light. Seriously, watch the following video clip at your own risk. I will not be liable for you being wrecked up like a douche (Can you believe the actual lyrics are revved up like a deuce? And Bruce Springsteen wrote it?).
Now that I have a child and am becoming more familiar with children’s programming there is a whole new world of crap songs to get stuck in my head. For example, the theme songs for Franklin (the whiny ass turtle), Wow!Wow!Wubbzy!, and anything from that obnoxious show Lazytown. And Ni Hao, Kai-Lan has a pretty obnoxious theme song (She’s the Chinese Dora for those of you not watching Nick Jr.). And I freaking hate The Wonder Pets. That stupid duck, Ming Ming, with the speech impediment needs a one way ticket out of the classroom. “There’s an animal in TWOUBLE.” On today’s show they were climbing the “PYWAMIDS.”
There are a few shows that I do enjoy, like Jack’s Big Music Show. That’s a cute show and the music doesn’t make your ears bleed. Maybe I’m just a sucker for puppets. And I like Oswald. It has Fred Savage from The Wonder Years and the guy that played Squiggy in Laverne & Shirley. So there you go, a new Mom’s perspective on Noggin/Nick Jr. I should be in a focus group.

You want to know the first clue that I’m not enjoying Battlestar Galatica this season? I keep forgetting it’s on. Like tonight, Chris is away at a Twitter meet-up and I just got finished putting my wall decal from ellynelly above my mantel. I sat down for a break and started to scroll through the channels until I got to Dr. Who and saw BSG set to record at 9:00. This is off topic, but who watches Dr. Who??? I’ve tried to watch it and just can’t get into it. I hear people say what an amazing show it is. Yeah, I don’t get it. Anyway, I had completely forgotten about BSG. That’s how much of an impression this season is making on me. Very disappointing. Especially considering the length of time they made us wait for a new season.
Later I went to SciFi.com and noticed the “Last Supper” promo pic. I’m sure this picture has been discussed ad nauseum online, but with the exception of Watch With Kristen on E! I don’t seek out any fan or spoiler sites.

Huh, Six in the Jesus position. An empty spot in front of the “grail.” Interesting.

Is anyone else excited about the Lost season finale tonight? Chris & I are looking forward to it. I’ve really enjoyed this season. In fact, I don’t think there has been an episode where I haven’t said “What! Did that just happen?” and made Chris hit rewind.
Speaking of Lost, a friend (who is a fellow Lost/BSG/Arrested Development fan) sent me this picture of him in Sedona sporting a Hanso Foundation t-shirt. Something about the scene and the Lost reference t-shirt told me I needed to Photoshop a Smoke Monster into the picture.

It adds a whole new dimension of terror to an otherwise harmless vacation photo. Chris thinks my follow-up pic should be a polar bear, or Cylon. Yeah, I don’t know. My Photoshop skills are pretty limited to photo retouching and black amorphous blobs. I’m not ready for Fark-like challenges.

I really enjoyed today’s Oprah show about living with less. This is a topic that has been on my mind for a while, in fact Chris & I were just discussing our $10/week soda habit last night. We were a two income couple for many years and developed lots of bad habits- like paper plates, water bottles, wasting food, eating out, too many gadgets, wasting gas. Here’s just some of the areas I think we can cut from our grocery budget alone:
- We spend $10/week for bread (white & wheat loaves and usually a loaf from the bakery and rolls). I just got a bread maker and will make our own.
- $10/week for 1 lb of Boar’s Head turkey lunch meat (which sometimes doesn’t even get finished). We will get a bag of chicken from Costco ($13 for 6 lbs) and cook it for sandwiches, or a huge spiral ham for $20 and eat off it forever.
- $5/week for bottled water. There is nothing wrong with our tap water.
- $10/week for soda. Cut back to one soda a day
- $5/week for paper plates, napkins, towels, plastic ziploc bags, etc. I have at least 5 different sets of dishes which we will use, along with cloth napkins/towels and reusable storage containers.
This is going to sound completely crazy to those of you that know me in real life, but I’d love to start a garden. I’d want a little salsa section with tomatoes, red onions, cilantro and peppers. Then maybe some green beans, cucumbers and strawberries. Organically grown veggies and fruit can get pricey. I’d love to have fresh, cheap produce. Then reality hits me and I realize that will never happen. I’m a little too “Eva Gabor from Green Acres.” I don’t like dirt, bugs, being outside, you know.
I’m really inspired to see what else we can live without, which should free up more $$ to go towards retirement savings and Daphne’s college fund. Here’s the link to Oprah’s Living With Less Challenge rules if you are interested.

“I wanna make an impact. I wanna be like freakin’ Mother Theresa, but in a diva kind of way. Okay?” - Dominique, America’s Next Top Model Cycle 10
Hearing this come out of Dominique’s mouth actually caused me to put down my laptop and hunt for the remote so I could hit rewind. She didn’t just say she wanted to be Mother Theresa but as a diva, did she? Yes, she did. I think being like Mother Theresa and a Diva are mutually exclusive, Dominique. I always record ANTM and skip over the drama and just watch the photo sessions and any scene involving Nigel Barker, so I miss most of the dumb comments the contestants make. Too funny.

My last post was just a reminder to watch the BSG season 4 premiere next week. As usual Tigh has the best line!!
In preparation for the new season, tonight we started BSG season 3 marathon, part 2. We recorded most of the season as it aired and watched it a few weeks ago, but we missed a couple episodes and wanted to be completely refreshed by next week. With so many story lines and time between seasons it’s nice to rewatch old episodes. Here are a few of my hopes for season 4:
- I want some Adama-Roslin loving. Really. They need to hook up. This may seem odd but remember this is coming from the girl that thinks the original Terminator movie is romantic. You know, the whole Kyle going back in time for Sarah thing. I may watch SciFi but I’m still a girl. I’m all about love and happy endings.
- Baltar, keep your hair short. The “Jesus” look does not work for me.
- I hope there is a satisfying end to the first set of episodes, especially since we’ll have to wait another year for the conclusion. I still can’t believe they are splitting the season in two. Argh.
- Hopefully there won’t be anymore Apollo/Kara relationship drama this season. Apollo needs to be happy with Dualla.
- And finally, I hope Tigh gets lots of screen time. He is too funny!!!
