Season 4
My last post was just a reminder to watch the BSG season 4 premiere next week. As usual Tigh has the best line!!
In preparation for the new season, tonight we started BSG season 3 marathon, part 2. We recorded most of the season as it aired and watched it a few weeks ago, but we missed a couple episodes and wanted to be completely refreshed by next week. With so many story lines and time between seasons it’s nice to rewatch old episodes. Here are a few of my hopes for season 4:
- I want some Adama-Roslin loving. Really. They need to hook up. This may seem odd but remember this is coming from the girl that thinks the original Terminator movie is romantic. You know, the whole Kyle going back in time for Sarah thing. I may watch SciFi but I’m still a girl. I’m all about love and happy endings.
- Baltar, keep your hair short. The “Jesus” look does not work for me.
- I hope there is a satisfying end to the first set of episodes, especially since we’ll have to wait another year for the conclusion. I still can’t believe they are splitting the season in two. Argh.
- Hopefully there won’t be anymore Apollo/Kara relationship drama this season. Apollo needs to be happy with Dualla.
- And finally, I hope Tigh gets lots of screen time. He is too funny!!!
In Development
Did you hear they are creating a new 90210 tv show? I admit, I watched 90210, at least until they graduated from high school. And Rob Thomas (Veronica Mars) is behind the new series. I might tune in, if only for the nostalgia factor and because Rob Thomas is involved. Oh, and one of the characters is named Daphne. Uh oh. Let’s just hope this doesn’t become a wildly popular show and Daphne becomes the next Addison (Grey’s Anatomy) and has a surge in name popularity. This will totally frak with my “classic yet uncommon” strategy in naming our girl Daphne.
Oh, and speaking of new shows the BSG spinoff, Caprica, has a green light and is going into production. I hope it will be a good show and will fill the BSG void. I was not a fan of Eick’s (BSG producer) Bionic Woman (which is cancelled now). Just couldn’t get into it.

Seat42f.com has an interesting theory about the remaining 2 of the Oceanic 6. Link. Obviously, don’t read it if you don’t want a possible spoiler.

A few weeks ago I watched Oprah’s Roots on PBS. Hosted by Henry Louis Gates Jr, it explored Oprah’s family history, all the way back to determining where in Africa her ancestors lived. It was really a fascinating episode. This month PBS is airing African American Lives 2, which explores the roots of Morgan Freeman, Don Cheadle, Chris Rock and a few others. Must be the history major in me, but I’m really enjoying this series. I would love for someone to sit down with me and tell me all about my relatives. Of course my genealogy is easier to track. You don’t have to piece together slave records or anything. My mom’s family is Cherokee (on her dad’s side). Somewhere she has a bible that contains the roll numbers of our relatives. They came from Ducktown, GA before the Trail of Tears and ended up in Tahlequah, OK. Many of them still live in the area today. If you meet someone with the last name of Carter from Tahlequah, I’m probably related to them somehow. My dad’s mom was Irish, and I believe my aunt has tracked down and visited relatives from the “old country”. I need to find out from my aunt when they came over (potato famine?) & how they ended up in Chicago.
My husband’s family is more difficult, at least on his Dad’s side. His grandfather grew up in an orphanage after his parents were killed and has not talked much about his family. Luckily since we have an unusual last name we were able to track down some distant relatives (who are very into family history, to the point of taking DNA samples to track the different family branches across the US).
Anyway, if you are interested in genealogy or African American history check out the African American Lives 2 and the PBS website for show dates/times. It’s a great series so far.

Now you can make your pantry items look like Dharma rations with labels from maxpictures.com. Link. How funny. I could see using these if we were having a Lost watch party or something.

According to Kristin with E!, Jason Bateman has confirmed that an Arrested Development movie might be in the works. Supposedly Universal is interested. Read about it here.
I really hope they make a movie. I miss that show.

As part of the Jane Event, this Sunday PBS is airing a new biopic, Miss Austen Regrets. The new movie features Olivia Williams as Jane Austen. Williams is no stranger to Austen movies. She played Jane Fairfax in the ‘96 Emma.
Hopefully this will be worth watching. I’ve been disappointed in the series so far. Persuasion was horrible. Mansfield Park wasn’t much better (Although I’m biased, Mansfield Park is my least favorite Austen book. And why did they cast Billie Piper? She didn’t suit Fanny at all and I didn’t like her in Dr. Who either). I did enjoy Northanger Abbey but it was not on par with the best Austen movie adaptations. Why is each film only 90 min. long???? Why go through the trouble of a new movie if it’s going to be so short. I can’t imagine how they are going to condense Sense and Sensibility into 90 min. No wonder they didn’t remake Pride and Prejudice.

We finished up Lost season 3 a few days ago and Chris decided he wanted to watch season 2 again. Argh. I’m going to be burned out on Lost before season 4 starts next week. See, Chris has been a Lost fan since day 1. I was more reluctant. Mainly because I just don’t trust any JJ Abrams series to last more than a few seasons without disintegrating into crap. Felicity, Alias- both started out strong. I’m still bitter about Alias. I loved that show, first two seasons especially. Then it went downhill. And after they killed off Vaughn in season 5 I was so pissed I completely stopped watching until the finale. And I’m still irritated they killed off Jack and that Irina turned out to be a bad guy after all. And that Rambaldi stuff was really stupid. Anyway- back to Lost. I know that JJ is not the only creative mind behind Lost so hopefully this series will be different. But there has been such a buildup that I’m not sure they can ever resolve everything in a satisfying way. For example- Chris had never seen Gone With The Wind. So we rented it one night and watched it and after the final scene Chris turns to me and says, “You mean I sat through this whole movie and THAT’S how it ends?!” Um, yeah. I’m afraid that’s what’s going to happen with Lost. “You mean I sat through all these seasons of Lost and THAT’S how it ends?!” We’ll see.

I was watching Everyday Italian on Food Network today and saw the promos for their new show, Down Home with the Neelys. Pat is the nephew of Jim Neely, owner of Interstate BBQ, and has his own restaurants in Memphis. Looks like a good show. The first episode on Feb 2nd will feature their rib recipe. We haven’t had much success cooking ribs at home, so I’m interested to see their technique.
Chris & I love Memphis BBQ. We are usually in Memphis at least 6 times a year and always stop to have ribs. We normally eat at Central BBQ and split a full slab. And you know the ribs are good when I order them. Because I don’t like my hands to get messy and I am not going to gnaw on a rib bone and wreck my makeup. With the exception of one visit to Central, we’ve always found their ribs to be divine and the meat peels right off the bone. It’s a no frills place near the Memphis Zoo. We never would have found Central BBQ without the help of Dallas Food Blog. If you like bbq and plan on being in Memphis definitely check out the 2 Memphis posts on Dallas Food. Very helpful. Here’s a shot of Chris in action at Central:
